The GCS Virtual Private Network system allows a GCS employee to access the internal trusted GCS network from the Internet using his/her district owned computer. Access is granted based on business need and with an agreement to abide by GCS Acceptable Use Policies. The purpose of this document is to provide standards for employee use of Virtual Private Network (VPN) connections to the Greenville County Schools (GCS) internal trusted network from the Internet.
These standards apply to all GCS employees utilizing VPN to access the GCS network.
GCS Education Technology Services (ETS) allows access to VPN for an employee after they agree to abide by these standards.
1. As is the case for all GCS network use, users must read and consent to district board rule EFE, which is the Acceptable Use Policy.
See board docs or https://www.greenville.k12.sc.us/gcsd/depts/ets/policy/privacy.asp.
2. All district VPN access is logged.
3. It is the responsibility of users with VPN privileges to ensure that unauthorized users are not allowed access to GCS internal networks.
VPN users are responsible for all activity performed with their VPN access.
4. The client computer must be a district owned computer. Personally owned computers cannot be used for district VPN access.
5. VPN users will be automatically disconnected from the GCS network after thirty minutes of inactivity.
